The Hero from the South

The Hero from the South

Karia, the first empire built on The Highroad. During its height the rest of the world was nothing more than disorganized tribes, just coming together to form fledgling nations. Karia grew incredibly strong and learned many secrets of the magics found on The Highroad, developing them into various schools and using them to bolster their strength and unsure their place in the future. However it was not to be. Karia's lust for power doomed it and in a horrid night of catastrophe the empire was brought to ruin. Only one knows of the horrors that befell Karia, a single survivor who escaped the doom that came to his brethren.

This nameless survivor traveled far to the north, crossing jungles and mountains, until he came to the fledgling nation of Istris. The man, near death, was nursed back to health by the kind Istrians. The people of Istris had already stumbled upon the magics of The Highroad and, fearing they may bring their own doom the same as Karia, the nameless survivor taught them not only how to control the magic, but also how to respect it.

Hoping that the tragedy that visited his home would never repeat itself, the nameless survivor continued north. Today, all four of The Highroad's nations have a legend of the nameless hero from the south who brought knowledge and magic to the people. They pass this legend down so future generations will always remember to respect the power of The Highroad's many schools of magic.

But as each nation outgrows its boarders, and tensions between them build, the legend may soon be cast aside…

You can learn more of The Highroad and the Hero from the South in Time-Lost, coming soon…

Someone Say Culinary Art?

Tonight I made this, my very first bruschetta! It was delicious.

This is the prettiest thing I have ever made and as such I wish to share it with the world!
I think there is something to this cooking thing... maybe more culinary art should be in the works!?

The Queen

The queen began as a simple bit of concept art of a biped bird-like beast drawn by Alix during our first connecting sessions. I took her idea from there and came up with this quick sketch.

Which became this beautiful alien queen. Tommy affectionately dubbed her the "horrific queen" since all our other aliens where very cute.

And here is how she looks in-Game. She became much less 'boney' and severe and much more jelly-ish... and soft Also her wispy hair became more like a coral-ish jelly like thing. This final result made her fit in much better with the Jelly-like aliens she was queen of and even though I love my "horrific" queen, this one does match the game's style better.

And Just for fun, here is a drawing of her as a Bounty Hunter. I like to think this was her life before she had became queen and had to rescue her people every day.

A New Wallpaper!

Since I needed a break from working on the Aliens vs Humans project, I started this a few weeks back. A nice quick sexy painting that makes a great wallpaper.

Main Menu: concept to in-game

For the Main Menu we wanted to have the dashboard of our Aliens' space ship.
Here you can see how I took that idea from a quick concept sketch to how it looks in-game.

Here is the concept piece,

From there I looked at the UI Tommy made for unit selection. We were beginning to move in the direction of having the alien technology be coral-based.
Using that coral motif as inspiration I fleshed out the whole dashboard leaving plenty of room for as many buttons as we needed.

Finally I polished things up, and replaced my ugly Jelly Alien with one of Alix's cute ones. We ended up using the top screens for a help and sound toggle button.

The final asset given to the programers had the dashboard like you see here, with the space-scape, title, and earth as separate images since they move. Alix also drew the hand that reaches up to push the button as its own separate asset.

And here is how it looks in-game
(you may notice the Earth is not straight, this is because it rotates like the face of a clock, just a fun quirky animation we threw in that adds to the overall silliness present though out the game)

Early Environment Concepts

It was pretty clear early on that I would be handling the environments for the game, the biggest part being the levels where you actually play the game. In the end we choose to use 6 different playing fields 3 locations on earth and 3 on the alien home world. These were the earliest concept pieces for some of those environments.

Updates!

So my time in Europe is coming to an end and I will be heading home soon. Since I have been very quiet (due to all the work) this last month I thought I would update everyone with a few days of the art and projects i have been working on. Obviously most of this will have to do with the iOS game we made, but there will be a few other goodies so stay tuned all week!

For now you get a beautiful title logo and the just posted video preview of our upcoming game!

ALIENS vs HUMANS

For those who didn't know, the last month I was part of a course in the UK called Gamer Camp. Basically it was an intensive training course where we made a game for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Its been a crazy month but our dedicated team of artists and programers have come up with a pretty nice little game. It is currently undergoing Apple's approval process and hopefully will show up on the iTunes App store soon. Here is a preview!
